The Dragon Slayer
Incredibly the walls were scorched with burn marks. Incredible because as far as the eye could see and in every direction this city was immersed in water up to the first floor of the buildings, much like Venice in Italy but I knew that we were not flying over Venice.
Surprisingly it did not alarm myself that we were flying. No not in the slightest was I alarmed at my flying abilities. I simply dropped my arm and I would glide that way. The same way birds swoop and dive I too was doing this.
The scorch marks? The scorch marks I just could not work out. They seemed to have a downward slant heading towards the water rather than coming up from where possibly a ship could have fired a missile but what or why would a ship want to fire at what for after all there appeared to be very very few people here just me and my friend who was now....
Telling me off. Of all things I was now in a tower with my new found friend Frederick. I have never in my life known a Frederick and yet here he is now with me in a stone circular tower. Much akin to the ones you read about in fairy tales. It was I am aware the tallest building in this City of Water. It stood up tall and was built of grey slate stone that reflected back the moonlight onto the water that lapped at it's base.
Just as Frederick was moaning at me for my lack of shaving and out of nowhere a flame of fire shot across the room in which we were sat. A muffled noise emitted from my mouth as if my very mouth had been sealed tight with superglue. I could not make a noise as my mouth was sealed tight. I tried and tried to open my mouth to shout a warning to Frederick that we must move but alas nothing seemed to be happening. At least nothing in the mouth department.
My hand now though was holding a sword! A sword that shone brightly in the moonlight and weighed heavily in my hand.
With the sword for some bizarre reason so my mouth became unglued and I screamed loud (loud enough to scare my wife who was sleeping next to me!!!)
"Yes! Yes! Yes!"
Frederick was gone though!
Where he had run off too nobody knows and I seriously doubt if I will ever see or dream about him ever again. Frederick no doubt at some point in my life had been in it but as a 45 year old I have met a lot of people and consciously remember perhaps less than 1% of them. Sorry everyone but that is the truth! Back to the dream.
Swooping down from above the dragon flew at me! Now I knew where the scorch marks had come from. He laughed at me with my long arms and little sword. Little compared to this gargantuan beast!
"What oh what are you going to do dragon dream slayer?!?" Cried out this beast that swooped once more and scorched my cheek as his fiery breath came closer. His laughter enraged me! How dare he come from nowhere and sneak up on me in the middle of my nights sleep. No sooner than the thought had entered my head the beast swooped again and my hand simply and swiftly slit the beasts throat. The dragon gargled beat it's wings one last time, raised slightly in flight then dropped down dead on the floor...
Upon waking my wife informed me I had been shouting in my sleep and asked me what I had been dreaming about...
She laughed quite loudly when I informed her I had been slaying dragons but the dastardly Frederick had quite simply disappeared.
